Residential

Project 1

The original 1980"s beach house was too small for the client and his family for a weekend and summer retreat.  New additions to the front of the house were needed to enlarge the bedrooms and family area to meet the requirements of the client. The house originally and the addition were designed as a pole house.  The poles are buried in the ground 10 to 26 feet deep to withstand hurricane storm surge.  The first floor is designed to break away from the rest of the house.  This allows water to flow through the pole foundation during a storm surge to prevent the upper two floors from collapsing in a hurricane.

Project 2

The original house was built in the late 1970's and the owner wanted to solve the problem of guests not able to find the front door.

Three years later and acquisition of adjacent property, the front door problem was solved.

The final product no longers sits on top of a tall dune but became part of the dune system.

Project 3

Second time around on this house.  In 1992 a bachelor had a lot and a postage size footprint to build on.  Sid Corhern created a design solution for a three bedroom, three bath house with a two car garage all sitting on poles buried 26 feet into the dune.  The design allowed the first floor to wash out in a hurricane.  And in 2004 that is just what happen in Hurricanes Charlie, Francis and Jeane

The second owner wanted the original designed modified some while staying on the same footprint as the original house.
