About

Sid Corhern has been practicing architecture since 1978.  He started his own architectural practice in 1985 in his hometown of New Smyrna Beach, Florida.  A small sleepy beach town that has a history dating back to the 1700’s and is considered one of the top beaches in the world.  Sid Corhern grew up on the beach playing in the dunes and surfing the waves.  This experience has grounded a deep desire in him to protect the land that he designs and builds on.  He has gone so far as to hand clear his personal site to build a pole house for his family in among large 80 foot tall maple trees.  The house actually sways with the trees in high winds and hurricanes.

Also, Sid’s young childhood was spent in Mississippi.  While living there he came to appreciate the old southern homes.  He later attended University of Florida Architecture School to study historic preservation to understand how and why old homes were built as they were.  This knowledge is combined with his life on the beach to create refreshing designs for the clients who look for a unique solution that matches their lifestyle.

It is his hope you find enjoyment in looking at the designs that are displayed on this web site.  Maybe you may need his services someday.  Either way thank you for stopping by and hope to see you again.

This is a letter in writing expressing the numerous accolades of Mr. Sidney Corhern.

I had the great pleasure to have been employed with Sid for three years while working in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. I have been in the Field of Architecture and Design for over twenty years and can say that my working experience with Sid was the most exciting, rewarding and quiet frankly, the best years of my career.

I have never encountered another Architect that has such passion and brilliance for the art of Architecture and Design. Sid’s approach to the profession is one of thought for the client’s needs, community and environment. Sid’s attitude of Architecture is more than providing just shelter, he creates three-dimensional art that we not only work and live in, but to be enjoyed by all.

Sid’s pleasant personality and work ethics go beyond those of the norm, as I enjoyed our projects, especially during the design stages, when we would “bounce” ideas back and forth to each other. I thoroughly enjoyed the comradery and the respect that was given to me, even though I did not have the experience that Sid had, I felt that of an equal.

It was an inspirational experience working with Sid Corhern, one that I would recommend to anyone that could possibly get the chance to do so. Sid once told me to remember, “Architecture is the main form of art that touches all of our lives”.

Most respectfully,

August Cook

I appreciate the opportunity to share with you my positive experience in working with Sid Corhern, local architect.  When I first approached Sid about helping with a city project I was working on, he was very helpful.  However, I soon realized that he was seeing far beyond my limited vision.

His experience and professionalism expanded the project into a much greater plan, which is now almost complete.

Sid is a man of integrity, who is well respected throughout Volusia County and the State of Florida.  He is diligent and consistent in his work, providing more than what is expected.  His gentle confidence and personality is easy to work with, and he maintains a positive attitude as he moves through unexpected obstacles that are encountered.

The community is excited and very appreciative of all he has done to develop a restoration project in the only public historical building in the city.

His vision and persistence in bringing this to completion will always be important to the people of this community.  He will remain our “Hometown Hero.”

Yours truly,

This letter serves as a high recommendation of Mr. Corhern for his exemplary architectural skills.  I have worked with Mr. Corhern on two projects, one in 1995 and the second from 2004-2008.  The homes he designed for me are absolutely stunning, and my present home is a jewel in our town.

He has been responsible, creative, and dependable.  His attention to detail is keen.  He enjoys a well-deserved great reputation.

Mr. Corhern would be a great asset to any project in which he is involved and he is recommended without any hesitation or reservation.

Sincerely,

Valerie G. Davis, M.D.

I just wanted to let you know that our latest project, our house at 1655 North Atlantic Avenue, is coming along very well.  The house is nothing like it was when we started, and I thank you for the creativity and personal attention you've given to this project.  I know that remodels aren't the most fun, and that working with a practical (aka cheap) client like me can limit you, this house is turning out to be even more spectacular than either Judi or I dreamed.  Thanks for all your ideas.  I'm sure this won't be the last project we work on together.

Sincerely,

Tom Gibbs
